Earth Day was founded by Senator Gaylord Nelson of Wisconsin and first celebrated on 22 April 1970 in the United States. Later on, many of country leaders took their part in the first United Nations Earth Summit held in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil in 1992; it was a summit to save the planet. They deal with global problems including climate change, worldwide loss of native cultures and wild species.
Earth Day serves as a reminder that we all live in the same planet. Our planet, together with us faces daily environmental challenges. We can lend a hand to protect and keep Earth clean. Responsible ways of using its resources may deter pollution; prevent damages in water, soil, air and other parts of our environment, thus guaranteeing future generations won’t run out of these resources.
Below are simple yet a great help to mother Earth.
• Plant trees. Trees help keep the air clean.
• Don’t be a litter bug. This will help keep the environment free of poisonous waste.
• According to a research, a person creates 360 pounds of food and yard waste. So why don’t we create a compost pile for food scraps and plant waste from the garden. This is a good way to cut down on the amount of trash that goes into a landfill. As a bonus, compost helps create rich soil for gardening.
• When dining out, don’t ask for straws in your drinks, most of it is made out of plastics. PET (plastic marked with a “1”) is the clear plastic usually used for things like soda bottles and cleaning products.
• When running in for grocery, try using the eco bags instead of the common plastic ones. These are the other forms of plastic that are recycled less frequently. And when plastics are burned it produce smogs that destroy the ozone layer.
• Recycle! Recycling is significantly part of keeping Earth clean. So easy to do. By giving old things a new life we put less pressure on important resources all of us will need in the future to survive.
Rethink, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
Understanding how long something takes to decompose in a garbage dump or landfill can help motivate all of us to reuse and recycle everything we can. The best thing any of us can do for the environment is to rethink the way we use things and to use less. The fewer resources and products we use, the less stuff there is to throw away and recycle. Can you guess how long it takes the things we use everyday to turn into soil in a landfill?
A study shows that it takes 20 years for a plastic bag to decompose and 250 years for a plastic cup. Newspapers can take 5 years to decompose and 500 years for aluminum. When we recycle 1 ton of glass, we save 1 ton of resources. By recycling glass we also reduce air pollution. Producing one ton of new glass creates 27.8 pounds of air pollution, while processing recycled glass produces 14-20% less air pollution.

Ink/Laser Printer & Cartridge Care for Quality Prints
Here are some useful tips on how to keep your printer and cartridges in top condition, giving you quality prints and saving you money in the long run.
For INK cartridges:
1. Never let a cartridge run out of ink completely. Your inkjet will burn out if it continues to fire while the supply of ink is cut off. Always have a replacement cartridge on hand. If the cartridge is showing “empty”, have it refilled or replaced immediately.
2. Have the cartridge refilled as soon as possible. The cartridge cannot be stored for an indefinite period.
3. When the lines and/or missing dots form on your text or graphics it’s time to clean the print head. Do not touch the copper plate on the print head with your fingers. Use the printer cleaning cycle (refer to your printer manual). If this fails to clean the problem, call us for the best service solution
4. Do not leave the cartridge in a hot car. This causes the ink to expand and leak.
5. Keep color cartridges upright. The colors will cross contaminate if left on its side.
6. After installing a new or refilled cartridge, print at least 2 test pages to settle the new cartridge.
For LASER cartridges:
1. Do not attempt to open the cartridge.
2. Do not leave the cartridge in motor vehicles for any length of time, as even on a cool day the temperature can exceed safe level. Doing so may distort the plastic in the cartridge.
3. Store cartridges in normal room temperature. Some parts in these cartridges are light sensitive and can be damaged when exposed to excessive light.
4. Have the cartridge refilled as soon as possible.
5. When empty, store your laser cartridges in its original plastic bag and cardboard box.
Some General Tips:
a. Always use quality paper.
b. Clean your printer from dust and debris.
c. Make sure that there is sufficient level of ink present in the cartridges.
d. Set the printing quality to high through the printing preference.
e. Read manufacturer’s manual for getting the optimized performance.
f. Give adequate ventilation to the laser printers because they dissipate heat.
g. Clean the corona wire and roller when you change the cartridges.
h. Print a test page; if the test page’s quality is fine and you are satisfied with it then you can get required results from your printer.
Note: if your hands/ clothes become stained with toner, wash them with lukewarm water and soap. For clothes, simply brush off outside in the open air. Don’t wash toner-stained clothes in hot water as the toner will set into a permanent stain. Use cold water only.
